Bangalore - Goa Adventures_Day I

I made my second trip in a month to Bangalore and Goa around 23 - 27 Jan and it was nothing less than an adventure.. The first time was post New Years - which was much more fun. I shall write about it later may be.

Not a very positive trip, but still it was something which shook me from my roots..

Reached Bangalore on the 22nd Evening and headed off to my cousin's place. I was staying back at her place and we were meeting after almost a year after her marriage. Brother in Law was hit by an iron rod a few days back by some random guy outside the Microsoft Office in Bangalore, which kind of shocked me and made me feel disgusted..

Are these the Metros which they talk about... Why would someone hit someone so innocent, someone who hasn't scratched anyone all his life..

They were in the US before returning to India, Jiju was pursuing Post Doctoral at the Rutgers and also teaching at Princeton. I am not sure if its the other way round, but probably if you know Neeraj Kayal, I don't think I would need to make further statements about him.

I am going to get thrashed by sis for putting him up on the blog, but I guess its ok :P

Anyways, I was in Bangalore for Proto, which went off pretty well and unorganized. We did a Pitch Camp and also a VC Speed Dating Session for startups who wanted to meet potential funding partners, which was appreciated by the audience and the participants. It was a little unorganised and on the spot, but it went off pretty smoothly.

The Event was a good networking platform and I ended up meeting a whole lot of VCs and Startups and pitching them our iAccelerator Program.Freeman did a small Introduction on both the days and got a good response as well.

24th night, I took the bus to Bangalore. I had reserved a KSRTC and the services were ok. The mid way stop was awesome, and since I didn't get a chance to grab on some food, this was a blessing in disguise. Chatted with a couple females on the bus, the men were all obnoxious.. :P

25th morning, I headed off to Namita and Priya's house near Baga. Post friday night, I expected these girls to be drunk and sleepy.. I reached at about 11:30 pm and Priya was still sleeping and someone by the name of Sonia was also sleeping in Namita's room. Namita was no where to be seen, apparently she went off to sleep at her friend's place because Sonia had taken her bed :D

Sonia is an Afro Indian lady, who was in Goa writing her thesis on Afro Indian Lifestyles in India. She is studying in France. She still looked hungover and dead and I had just met her, so I didn't know what would make her feel better. Nonetheless, since I was hungry [no breakfast] and she looked like she wanted some breakfast, we headed off to the near by restaurant to eat something.

Had some banter about Commitment, Marriage, Guys, having kids and not having kids and how 33 yrs and Socialogy has taught her what life is all about... All this over Masala Omlette and Veg Fried Rice with Coke and Mazza.. And then we headed off, when she insisted she wanted to go back to Panjim to her house, as she had a lot of stuff to wrap up.

Asked a couple people there for rickshaws and where we can get them, no one had a clue. So we crossed the road and stood under a tree against a White Maruti 800, and were looking for an empty rickshaw to Panjim or Mapusa. 2 mins.. 5 mins.. no luck and the sun was burning me up.

The traffic was speeding past and no one even bothered to stop by and help us what so ever. The roads were thin and two lane traffic is something which was almost impossible on these tracks. But traffic was flowing.. at almost 50 - 60 kmph.

Worse comes to worse, I would have had to hire a bike and drop her to Mapusa and drive back to home at 1 in the afternoon. I suggested to come back home and rest for some more time and leave in the noon, but she was hell bent on leaving at 1 pm. So I accompanied her..

We were still waiting for rickshaws when a speeding inter city volvo, which looked almost out of control of the driver, was coming towards us. Considering that we were standing off the road, Sonia didn't expect it to come and bang into us. I mean, the bus is expected to move atleast half a meter away from the parked vehicles if not more. I moved behind the car because I didn't want a scratch on my body. But she was still there, leaning against the car so that she can be safe.

Well, the bus came crashing into the White 800, scratched the car, pushed it about half a meter from the road and also hit Sonia. Sonia was pushed about a meter from the car on the sides of the road and her head was bleeding. All this happened in the second that I moved from the car to the back.

I ran to her, was disgusted at the driver's ways. The bus had stopped about a 50 metres away and someone from the bus had already called the Emergency Number - 108. Gave her some water to drink and shouted at the driver, apparently the guy I shouted on wasn't the driver :P

Till the Emergency Van came, we figured that she had fractured her right arm, it was swollen and painful. The Emergency Van took us to Calangute Hospital which looked like some shady Government hospital, but the services were ok. They cleaned up the open wound and stitched it up. Almost 14 stiches on the forehead ! and applied some red tonic on the other open wounds.

In between, Sonia called up one of her friend who came to see her at Calangute Hospital. Priya and Myself had to accompany her all over Goa because apparently her "friends" were all working on a "national holiday". She also informed her Mother about the accident and aunty was trying all possible ways to figure out how to help Sonia from Bangalore.

The right arm was squashed and the Doctor just tied it to her neck with a bandage for support. She was being carried around on a wheel - chair. We were asked to move to a specialty hospital for X - Rays and CT Scans and we drove off to Goa Medical College.

It was the 26th of January and everything was shut. And it was getting difficult to get small things done. Goa Medical College took a lot of time to carry out tests. Priya was running around with her because I couldn't sit any longer in the Emergency Ward, which had people puking and screaming with pain. It kinda brought back memories of Ahmedabad Blasts and the patients at the Civil Hospital [I had gone to meet them 3 days after the blast, with a reporter friend]. So I was waiting outside.

One of Aunty's Contacts came to meet Sonia at Goa Medical College, someone with connections in the Government and private establishments in Goa.. Rich Man :D. We were a little relaxed then.

It was almost 3 pm and Priya was hungry.. She'd just gotten up and washed her face and brushed too [apparently she thought it must be some minor accident so she dressed up and freshened up before coming out to see the drama on the road outside her house] but didn't have anything to eat. So we rushed to the Hospital Coffee Parlour [Nescafe it was] and called for lots of stuff to eat. I explained her the entire story and she still looked confused.. Had to use the empty glasses from all the drinks we had and animated the scene on the table.. was fun.. :P and she seemed to be following it, so all was good.

I am not sure if such tragedies and dramas in my life make me a comedy model, may be its just a reflex action to not show the tension on my face and in my head. But I was smiling all through out and handled the situation pretty much well.. I would say so. This was the first time I'd ever faced an accident and so it was good..

Talked to a couple friends, while Sonia got herself checked up at the CT Scan place but all in vain.. didn't really help.. I didn't know how I was feeling.. One part of me said its all fine and that I need to keep my head open and take quick decisions and that tensions on this moment will screw up more than one life.. Had this rush of blood and energy and all good things which kept me going..

God was there.. And I knew he was there.. cus I was saved by a second and I knew he would help me.. :) help me survive till Sonia gets into better hands..

Goa Med College wasn't of much help, to the extent that they didn't want to give it in writing about the analysis they did on her and the injections they gave her. The IAS Office [Aunty's Friend] made a decision of taking her to the Manipal Hospital. We carried Sonia back into his car and drove to Manipal which is pretty much South Goa. Sonia was craving for a smoke, lit one for her and she was happy.

Manipal Hospital is close to the Cidade Goa resort, pretty location !

We put her into the hospital's custody and while they did their duties. What a relief !

The X-Rays and CT scan was done again and the reports mentioned multiple fracture of the right shoulder which had to be operated and no other major injuries. The Right Shoulder would be eventually fixed with metal joints because it was squashed completely.
The operation was scheduled for the 28th Morning. I still haven't got a chance to talk to her and ask her how she is, but I know that her family reached Goa on Tuesday morning to take care of her.

Another problem emerged before we could leave her in the hospital. Someone had to stay back with her all through the night to take care of her demands etc. We were in a fix and hoping she had enough friends to stay back at the hospital, because we barely knew her to stay back and take care. Over and above that, both of us were dead tired and lived pretty far away, leave that, We didn't have clothes or the morning stuff to stay back at the hospital.

Sonia then called her friend to come and stay back at the hospital and he agreed.
It was almost 7:00 P.M. when we left her. Her friend had still not come and we were not in a mood to stay longer.

Bid her farewell and headed off home, only to find Max sitting with Namita in her room. Max is Makarand Deshpande :)

Eventually, Sujoy drove down to Namita's place and the five of us headed off to Whispering Lake Resort, near Arambol Beach to have some gala time and good food. Makarand and Sujoy are Namita's friends. Sujoy lives in Goa itself and is a journo by profession, and Makarand came down from Mumbai to spend the extended weekend in Goa :)

Whispering Lake Resort was one heaven and after all the jazz during the day I really needed some piece of mind and a nice place to relax. The place has been designed and maintained by Stanzin, again Namita's friend from TISS. Amazing person and amazing work. If you like this place and want to make a visit there, leave a comment on this blog with your e-mail ID and I shall put you in touch with Stanzin.

The Night passed away singing with another bunch of people and Makarand Dancing :)

The Meeting with the Man

I saw him walk out from the class, barely got a glimpse of his forehead.. tried to look through the crowd, and still couldn't manage to see him..

The crowd still surrounded him.. running behind to touch, probably take an autograph, talk to him, just see and I don't know what else..

Anyways, I ran, ran behind the crowd.. I wanted to see him ! I mean, I can't just go back to my room without having a glance, like a proper one. And no one would accept it, if i told them that I saw his head..

Pushed a few people, smashed against the benches on the way, dropped a couple coins [nah, I didn't bother turning around and picking them up] and pushed a few fat and slow people on my way.. ran down the slope and then tried to walk through the security.. didn't work out..

And I suddenly heard one of the guys "He will go up the stairs, clear the crowd, quick" and I jumped through the pool of Lilies, and went right in front of the stairs and stood there waiting for him to cross me. I was the only one..

I was at the stairs almost 5 seconds before him, a good enough time to have a full glimpse. Black T-shirt and a blue jeans, just like the receptionist described. I saw him, he saw me. I smiled, He smiled back. I waved at him and he waved back. All this before he started climbing the staircase to head off to his room..

Hehh.. never done this before.. Not for a guy, not for a celebrity, but yes, this time around, it was just for a kick. A saturday evening, and Ahmedabad doesn't really have much to offer, except for this lil adventure, which was going down the right track...

Well, I did see him.. So did, other normal junta.. I had to do something much more than that.. yeah, what, get an autograph, get a pic with him.. hmm, or may be something else.. things were running through my head, but cut it short.. An Autopgraph and a pic should be good enough. So what if some 80 people got to do it too, its awwrite for a start, and gives me enough kick for the moment..

Was walking back to my room, when I suddenly decided to walk to the first floor and check up on his room number.. ran up the stairs on the other end of the guest house, obviously, there won't be any security there. reached 'his' area.. crowded by some fat men and a whole lot of security guys... My colleague didn't want to walk in till there, cus she was probably scared or knew that they won't let us in there. Anyways, I tried, once, and confirmed if he was in there.

The room number was not visible, as his room was pretty inside in the wing.. Had to do something about this..

I walked down, and at dinner with some people, I made a plan of getting his room number..

"So how many people from the conference haven't paid up the room tariff" I asked the receptionist at the Guest House... In Between, the receptionist got a phone call and he got busy. And this was the chance. Flipped through a couple pages and there it was.. Aamir Khan 220*.. Wooo Hooo.. I like almost wanted to do a jig there, right in front of the receptionist.. Ha ha..

I walked back to my room, thinking what happen should next. I have the room number, but not the Land line number...

I faintly remembered that rooms around his were also given away.. and thought it would be a nice idea to call up the reception and ask for someone's number around his room.. So I called up and the same guy picked up the phone.. And I asked him for the number.. Apparently, the rooms around his were let out to his crew.. May be the secretary and four bodygaurds.. So he just wouldn't give me the number to the rooms.. "Ma'am no one is there in those rooms" is all I got to hear...

I kept the phone down, pretty upset. Still thinking what to do, when this brilliant Idea struck me.. Brilliant, atleast I want to call it so, but yes, it actually was pretty brilliant...

I had the directory to the Institute land line numbers.. !

Flipped through it, and found the series.. 2201 - 2210.. and calculated his phone number.. I was delighted..

Pallavi was chatting with me on GTalk, kinda told her what was running through my brains.. And gave her the number too.. She was too scared to call up..

I gathered some courage, and called up.. First time, I just heard some fax tone.. All plans seemed to fall to ground.. Wanted to give up, but tried one more time..

And it connected..

"Hi, who's this" he asks me.. "Hi.. can I know who is this on the other end"

"Yes.. Aamir here".. And I was all smiles..

"Hi Aamir, this is one of your fans calling, from campus.. " and all I could hear was giggles.. It was a nice feeling.. Yes I was talking to Aamir Khan over a Land line and no it wasn't a dream.. :)

We talked for some time.. like a minute, cus he wanted to crash and wake up early for his early morning flight.. I asked for a favour.. and he accepted it..

5:15 am is what he said, 4:50 am is the time we reached at the Guest house, for the fear of losing out on meeting him. First we were asked to leave by the receptionist. But Pallavi almost shouted on him saying "But, we talked to him over the phone and he asked us to come", which didn't help either. Eventually, the Guest House Manager - Neeraj, came to our rescue. Probably he met up with him and convinced him to let 5 - 6 people meet him at the entrance. We were delighted..

And well, the wait of 15 + extra delayed time was totally worth it. He walked down the stairs, charismatically and we three [Pallavi, Anushree and myself] headed off to meet him, take pics and autograph.

This did give me a kick.

There was this instant connection, greetings exchanged, and it seemed like he already knew me.. I am sure, he recognized my voice and also my face after the one second meeting in the evening.

Everything that I wanted to tell him, just vanished out of my head. Specifically, wanted to tell him about my Birthday falling 24hrs before his and how much I loved his old releases like Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, Andaz Apna Apna, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Jo Jeeta wohi Sikandar and the latest ones Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti and ofcourse TZP, and about Imran Khan, and about how I like his Ads and acting and well, everything :D

Got some pics clicked. I am waiting for some better pics from the others who were standing there.

[click on the pic for a bigger version, Pallavi - Anushree - Aamir, in that order from Left to Right]

[click on the pic for a bigger version, Pallavi - Anushree - Aamir - Aditi, in that order from Left to Right]

"So you are the one who blog's on http://aamirkhan.com/blog right?" and I got an affirmation to that question. Pretty impressive to know he reaches out to his fans himself and not through his PRO or Secretary who might be writing for other celebs on their Blogs.

That's the end of one awesome Saturday Night. Well spent, not Partying or watching movies, but waiting to meet someone early in the morning and bidding him farewell.

The most embarrassing part was getting a kiss on the cheeks by both Pallavi and Anushree together.. He He He.. They were so happy.. I think all of us will remember this for the rest of our lives, atleast I will :)

I shall wait for Mahesh Bhatt and the rest of the Bollywood team to come to campus, probably might end up chatting with them for longer than what it was with Aamir Khan. I wish there was some time to talk to him. Hoping to catch up with Aamir Khan over Coffee sometime in Mumbai. Lets see.. :)

Adios..

aDeSe

P.S. Aamir was at IIM Ahmedabad for one of the second year courses called Contemporary Film Industry, which some of us from the Centre also wanted to take up, but weren't allowed to. And his Secretary was in the very next room, the number of which I had asked for from the receptionist.

P.P.S.
Pagalpan Resurrected ? :P

Why your start up needs Brand Consulting

I sent this guest post on Startupcentral and thought it would be a good idea to cross post on this blog as well...

So here it is...

Happy reading.. Do give me your feedback on this..

- Aditi

Startup Brand Consulting
- Aditi Gupta

It is a little confusing and complex to explain the concept that I have in my mind. Hence, I will try and explain through examples and reasons that I chose to start a brand consultancy for startups. I am still working towards forming a company around it.

I started my career with an incubation centre in Ahmedabad - NirmaLabs - immediately after my graduation from St. Xaviers’ Ahmedabad in English Literature in 2006. There were many technology companies being incubated at the centre and it was a lot of fun understanding the processes and the way that an entrepreneur’s mind works. In a couple of weeks I realized that techies are not generally very good with brand related stuff.

Branding is an art and most people think they know it all. But once they start implementing their strategies they realize that they are going the wrong way and a year down the line they hire a ‘good’ brand consultancy to help them out. As a result, they end up spending a lot of money and also changing the entire branding of their product/company/service. This affects the company in two ways. One, the company faces re-branding issues. Two, it becomes too expensive to do the entire branding exercise all over again. I am not talking about brand equity and brand positioning and so on. Branding here refers to the initial level of brand building which involves marketing, public relations, corporate identity design and the works.

After working with NirmaLabs for a couple of months, I moved to Mumbai to work for AC Nielsen, where I realized that a typical corporate job was not for me. I needed to start something on my own which would fuel my passion for marketing, design, social entrepreneurship and the like. So in 2007, I moved to a startup production house in Mumbai — Apricot Media — as a marketing consultant which helped me pick up and at the same time try out things related to online marketing and the way startups actually function. It was a nice learning experience and helped me polish my skills for brand consulting.

At Apricot, where I was primarily responsible for marketing their online television called thebig.tv, we started out with figuring out the direction for this company and how much the entrepreneur was willing to spend. Since the target audience was a young crowd and was more involved in content creation over the Internet, we started positioning the company in cultural festivals and made it popular on blogs and other social media. We initiated Facebook Groups for viral videos, Bollywood and started populating them. Blogs and other social channels were targeted for publicity. Online press releases, hiring people for organic marketing and making the website SEO-friendly were some of the strategies used to market the website. However, thebig.tv did not sustain for long because the content was too heavy for available Internet bandwidth and Apricot had to scrap the project, which also left me jobless.

The job made me realize that while startups look for cheaper methods of marketing themselves but also expect higher returns on the effort and money spent. And this brand building business is very much inter-related to the other aspects of a startup, such as technology, back-end, human resources and finance. This makes my job as a brand consultant even more difficult. It is a process that will take some time to show results and we need startups to understand exactly this!

So that’s my story. Tried and tested a lot of things learnt from experience, talked to people and I am convinced that this concept can work, provided someone has the patience and energy to run with it. The discussion at BarCampMumbai 4 was more to understand how this eco-system can work in our country, considering that startups here are pretty choosy about the kind of associations they build and the way that they handle the finances of the company. One critical input from the discussion was that there is a need for such consultancy, which has a flexible financial model — a mix of equity and cash or payment for services in easy instalments — and is willing to contribute to a critical extent to make the startup market and build its brand in less time and build one that sustains for at least three years.

Finally, here are ‘Five Don’ts for Startups in Brand Building’

  1. Don’t try to get into branding yourself. At the least, consult friends who are in a similar business and work profile.
  2. Don’t hire designers and marketers in the initial years because it is going to be expensive.
  3. Don’t lose focus on what your startup is all about. Stability in focus in important.
  4. Don’t lose patience :-)
  5. Don’t believe that you don’t need us :-)

Where is he ?

some 20 people were running in one direction...
with Bamboos, sticks and bats....

running so fast, no one could have probably caught up with their speed...

I was standing and watching the show... Wondering, why are so many people running, and in one direction...

Are there more people running behind them to kill them ?
Are they running behind a person?

Did that man kill someone.. did he rob.. was he involved in an illegal relationship.. ?

Did he sleep with the village head's daughter... ?

Did he commit something more disgraceful.. ?

Between all these thoughts... I had forgotten to look for the robber...

The horde of people would cross me anyways.. I was on their way to catch the robber..

If he is going to cross me, I can may be try and stop him, he will topple over if I put my leg in the middle of his sprint, the race which he is trying to win..

So I kept looking...
And looking.. for the robber..

errr..

20 people crossed me, with bamboos, sticks and rods and bats...
but where is the robber...

I tried to focus harder...

And... I saw him... I finally spotted him...
I saw him jump the fence and enter the bush...

Brown, with dark black eyes, very thin.. and sprinting like crazy, jumping over fence, and barking and saving himself from the mean creatures...

Yes, It was a DOG !!!

Ah, well.. ended up in a bush, far away from my sight, and the 20 people managed to catch him by forming a circle around him..

And I, was laughing for the rest of the day..
I hope I made you laugh too...

Romance in his LyF ??

I met my first .. first .. first ever Girlfriend.. can you believe that.. After TEN years..
Its such a nice feeling.. I can't even express..

She was my first ever thing, first ever girl friend I possessed.. It was the same for her.. and it went on for three.. three and a half years..

We were so close to each other..

At those college traditional evenings, we used to dress up in similar clothes and go to college. I used to call her one night before and tell her "Look, we are wearing Black T-shirt over Blue Jeans tomorrow to college" and everyone used to go ga - ga over our dress because we were not traditionally dressed..

Its so cute and nice to meet her after 10 years.. She is still the same.. She still gets the same dimples after so many years..

It still feels like those days.. Its so nice to meet her.. Its an exhilarating feeling.. I'm all so happy..

We are trying to show people that we were not together.. we are trying to do things differently at the re-union thing.. its so funny.. she'll sit on the couch and I go and sit on the bed.. but I can see that she's looking at me from the corner of her eye.. So am I !!

Its so nice to listen to such stories.. and your heart goes, "Wow, perfect. One of those uniquely nice love stories. Totally romantic."

And no this is not fiction, this hasn't been made up by me.. but these are the snippets from a conversation I just had with a friend over the phone..

He sounded "So Much in Love" and so very nice.. He sounded so different.. He sounded so like I would have sounded 5 years back.. I could feel the emotions on the Phone.. It would have been so much better if I were there listening to all of this.. :)

These are one of those things I miss in my life.. the first boyfriend.. the first serious relationship.. I am not sure if I've had one in such a young age.. The first serious relationship I had was when I'd started working.. in Mumbai.. which went on for a year ! and then Phoooot.. hehehehe ..

Well, yes, I guess, if I do get a chance to meet him, it will be the same sparks and smirks and blushes kinda feeling.. But I am again nt sure if I will sound so-much-in-love types..

I think it will be more so after meeting my first crush.. But, its almost like, I end up fighting with the guy and so we completely lose touch.. I am not in touch with any of my previous boy friends.. none of them.. for reasons, I better keep them to myself..

I am in touch with all my friends, however, and we keep cribbin about the kind of girls / guys we find.. not the kind we would have ever dated... Seriously..

None.. absolutely none of my close friends have come up and told me that they've found the best girl / guy for themselves.. Nor have I ever seen them with the purrfekt girl / guy..

Personally.. I'm such a freak, tomboy, crazy, wierdo that I doubt if God has sent that one purrfekt guy for me.. :) .. not that I mind.. but still speculating..

And if that one purrfekt guy is, by any chance, reading this blog, please do let me know that you have been sent by God for me.. :)

I am not sure.. what more to write about..

But I miss "those" days of my LyF.. realised its 5 years since school ! and yes, five years since I met my first crush. Hmmm..

And you there, stop missing out on such sweet, romantic things in life.. Go out and find that purfekt guy/girl for yourself and keep me posted :)

Cheers

Aditi

Lift: Case I

so madam, along with three of her colleagues, steps in to the lift..
two stand in the two corners, madam is standing right opp to the switch panel and there are some 2 more unknown people in the lift.

the door is about to close, wen this guy who is suposed to get in, doesn't get in to the lift.. and we hav to struggle around and get the lift to stop so that he can enter.. But I think something was wrong with him, he didn't understand the works of a lift, maybe. So I almost shout on him askin him to get in..

He manages to walk in, hurting himself in the automatic doors of the lift.

While the lift gets going, I check the stops on my way to the 6th floor. The lift is supposed to stop on floor 4 as well, and I almost felt I knew who pressed the button..

Thin, lean and tiny, I'm barely visible in the crowd of 3 fat men and 2 tall ladies.
Makin the most of this situation, I kinda whisper - "Everyone will have to come out of the lift cus this guy in front of me has just pressed for number 4."

Floor Number 4, and that dumb fellow is out of the lift, expecting someone to get out... Well, there was no one who wanted to get out on #4 and it seemed like someone pressed the button by mistake.. I get the stares.. And I am almost trying to control my laughter..

The Dumb Guy again forgets that he has to get in before the lift door closes and we somehow manage to stop the doors for closing. I shout at him and ask him to walk inside the lift.

well.. floor 6 comes.. immediately after the door opens, I run out of the lift.. and start laughing, obnoxiously loud enough to shake the entire building.. err.. exxaggeration..

i run into the office, laughin like a Mad woman and two more follow..

The Story repeats and now.. 10 of us are jus sitting and laughing in the office..

My first Start-up Job and my last set of colleagues in Mumbai..
Miss you Guys..

Marriage

Before you start thinking that i have decided to get married, lemme clarify..

This post is gonna be more of my thoughts about marriage, than anything else.

Considering that I am of a "marriage-able" age and also pretty much popular cus of my latest stint, people are actually waiting for me to say a “yes” to marriage and there will be a hordes of men who wud want to

marry someone. Who cares who she is ! Atleast, this is what I'd LyK to believe.

Mum has already talked to me 2 times in the last one yr abt marriage. I think she has also visited an astrologer and found out that my LyF will be much better after marriage and that I will make a good Gharelu Aurat !!

Aunts, uncles, Grampas and Grammas are waiting to kill the Bakri by getting her married to someone they knw will be an "ideal" husband.

I think they already hav proposals in place, I just need to say "yes" !
this whole thing is so funny. Which is why it is up on my blog

So one fine day at the Delhi Airport, on our way to a cousin's marriage, all the aunts started coaxing me into sayin a "yes"...

Aunt 1 : Ab toh iski shaadi karwa deni chahiye. Ab toh yeh ghar par bhi aagayi. Ab isse nahin jaane denge !

I was LyK, woah, someone's so bothered abt my marriage. How caring and nice.

I simply replied, chhote bachhon ki shaadi nahin karwani chahiye buaji, Lawyer aapko pakad ke le jayega. :P

Aunt 2 : itni sundar sushil ho gayi ho, kisi ka ghar bana do.

Guys don't realise I am deceptive.

u know, cutest kittens hav the sharpest claws !
unfortunately I am one of them with the sharpest claws !

Or so I'd like to believe :D

nonetheless, i got so bored after the stupid discussion, that I stopped bothering about what they were trying to say and make me do during the entire marriage procession in Assam.
to while away our time, cousin and I kept oogling at the men on the airport wen they saw us we started laughin out loud !! i like the oriental looks ye... so cudn't resist the oogling.

After reaching Amdabad I got a nice lecture from mum..

"tell me if u want us to look for a man for u.
tell us if u have already found someone. Who is that guy u used to talk to.. wat is he doin now.. "

I was bombarded with questions and too many suggestions... and i kept ignoring her.
all the men she ever knew i knew were the useless ones.
She doesn't still knw whom I was datin etc etc. why does she need to knw anyways..

i ended the conversation by sayin.. mum, dont be so bothered. take care of urself and your another kid. I am fine the way I am and enjoyin my LyF. If I find a Man worth marryin ever in my LyF, I will get married. I might be 30 - 40 or whatever age, if i feel LyK then, I am sure I'l get married.

But I have "no", and lemme repeat, absolutely "no" intentions of gettin married what-so-ever.

oooof.... and yes, thats the truth and will be the truth.

my dream man is a lil too unbelievably exceptional :P. I doubt if i will find someone LyK him in this LyF atleast.

I did find one, but cudn't keep him for too long. feel sad for him now and for myself as well .. But thats past, now I don't want re-create the past again :)

I have had my share of men, and have had varied experiences, but never felt the need to get into a formal relationship called Marriage and spoil the entire fun of being with LuV.

the concept seems so out-dated to me. Still can't come to terms with the word. And I still wonder why people get married.

So thats my take on marriage !!
Adios till i decide on gettin married and write a post on those feelings too..

Cheers

Adi

BarCampMumbai 3

BarCampMumbai - 3 came to an end...
Don't want to say much, just that yes it was good fun.

Except for the morning Chaos and people (read: PiScEaNaTeD) being allotted 2 different sessions in 2 different rooms at the same time, everything else was fine !

Purfektly dis-organised !!

Being a planner, you are anyways not supposed to attend sessions, but a few of them kept insisting on attending sessions while the event was goin for a toss. Being a planner, i had expectations. I don't know if other Planners expected something from it too.

Nonetheless, the first timers enjoyed it a lot and have sent in very good reviews of the event on their blogs. A Google search for barcamp mumbai 3 / bcm 3 should help you with quite a lot of stuff on this event.

Positives...
BlogCamp rocked.. just that I couldn't sit through any of the sessions.
FireTalk was happening too...

Your's trully presented the iAccelerator program, the newest thing at the CIIE as part of the startup track.

Got good reviews for the project and quite enthu crowd.

Missed out on the Linkbun.ch and Startup Saturday launch. Fooled around with the flying saucer for some time and posed for the camera-man from Mint, who was obsessed with the stickers on my hand.

Was good fun being in Mumbai.... three weeks after farewell, too humid, so skipped lunch.

Saturday night was fun too... nice dinner followed by lots of talks.. and some banter with a friend over BCM3. Slept and woke up every two hours :P

I'm now looking forward to BCB - 6 !! and I'm looking forward to enjoy the rains in South India...

Hope to see the gang there too.. and meet a few more interesting people.

Cheers till the next post..

Traffic Signal

I have never been to a traffic signal with a guy before. You are the first one" ... :P

Well.. while puttin this up on the Pick – up line blog, I wasn’t really expecting this one to actually come to reality..

Yeah, I was at a signal wit a guy.. standing at the cross-roads, watchin the cars go by.. apparently, he likes watchin cars go by on the road… and this all at 11 in the nite..

and I suddenly get started with the pick-up line shit, and this one comes to my mind.

“I’ve never been to a traffic signal with a guy before. You are the first one” :)

Funy na..

Clarified it for him. Told him that I aint flirtin wit him, I am just quotin a line off my Blog..

Hmm.. some smiles exchanged, laughed a bit.. and then headed home after standing at the signal for an hour..

Wattay Date..

LyF rocks wen it is crazy LyK this !!

Seva Cafe

Doesn't the name sound interesting ??
Seva.. like someone's doing some Seva fer you by serving food or something to eat.

Ten of us, ended up at Seva Cafe after a nice day of unconferencing (Read - Barcamping) at the CIIE building in IIMA, for dinner.

believe me, its been the best-est food I've ever had all my life. Well, not cus its cooked well or made in a clean and hygienic place.. but cus they make and serve it with so much love and care, that dude, u will eat more than what u actually eat.

we started out with a round of Sweet corn soup, followed by some 10 plates of Handva - a Gujju dish made outta some Flour and pan fried.. then came in 10 plates of daal baati (ummm, my ever so wish of havin one was fulfilled after almost 3 yrs !).. then some more handva... and lots of sev puri.. ending it with Gaajar ka Halva (my first of this season)..

oh.. and yes, lot of live music, singing and dancing too.. in the middle of all these sev puris and handvas...

now you might be thinking, this is a regular feature at any resto, wats so special about Seva Cafe that this Crazy woman is blogging about it and making us read something which has been in the market all this while. ..

magar.... abhi picture baaki hai mere dost :)

the amazing thing abt this place is that this resto is run by a group of volunteers who cut, wash, cook the vegetables, bake chapatis, make the halva, decorate the place, set the tables, sweep the floors, clean the utensils, serve you food and all this, with a smile on their face. and only 50 lucky people are served every day.

price.. nothing.. ! you can walk off the cafe after eatin a sumptious meal for free !!
or else, be kind enuf to put in an amount as a gift in the envelope they offer post the meal.

the volunteer cud be anyone.. people like me and you, children at the slums, a teacher in the school, a foreigner travellin down to the country for some cultural experience...

and by the way, I've just came back after volunteering for some 4 hrs at the seva cafe.. trust me, it was fun.. washin dishes, crackin jokes with Bhaskar - the co-ordinator, talkin abt entrepreneurship and technology with the other volunteers at the cafe and eating food post work at 10:00 PM with some loud music and ending it with a love talk with all the other volunteers and puttin in a feedback for the cafe to the Cafe in charge - Sandeep.

have nevah in my lyf been served food with so much warmth and happiness.. Nevah !
Yeah, got some pampering from Calorie Care (my Lunch Walas) while i was at Nielsen, but only for a month or so..

its been a unique experience.. eating as well as the Seva-giri part of it...

And I am looking forward to some more Volunteering at this cafe with a set of friends who'd like to cook and serve people.

My first week in Mumbai !!

" oh Mumbai, how do I describe you... :)
after 2 months you look even more beautiful..
and I don't regret coming back and Romancin u all over again.. "

Woah.. ! m so so so in love with this place... and I missed it a tad too much.. for 2 months...
but, like i mentioned in the previous post, I wasn't realy happy with the kind of transition I had back into this city.. here's a gist of wat i did in the first week..

I landed in mumbai on the
Monday, the 7th of Jan...
went off to the Neilsen office to collect my bonus cheque :-D !
(FYI, I am still surviving on Neilsen money.. :P) and met the colleagues there.. good fun.. Had my usual doze of Cheese Tomato sandwich.. and a round of Sev puri ! Wow..

Nostalgic..

Ramesh bhai, the sandwich guy still remembers me.. And in 2 months many things had changed.. The sandwich wala has a griller now.. so now I can eat Grilled Cheese Tomato Sandwiches for 15 bucks.. Awesome !!!

Tuesday, I headed to my new office (read - Apricot Media).. the lazy me, got up at 9, after discarding the alarm set for 8 am.. put kajaal after 2 months.. i lyk me with Kajaal, and so the mention.. reached work at 11:30 PM (it is the first day after 2 months. Watya expect ! 9 am office :P).

One more marketing plan !! no response on it till date though.. :P
did nothing.. nothin at all.. mailed all my friends that my number has changed.. :P and promoted my blog also.. wrote a new post.. yeah, so I did work.. worked on building my "Brand" :-D !!

Wednesday, thursday, friday.. weren't any better...

11:30 am became 12 .. and then 12.30 and on friday I reached work at 1 Pm.. :) .. so u see Tuesday, was still better.. headed back home as early as 5 and 6 pm.. :) ..

wat did i do.. i was building my "Brand" :-D !!

a normal conversation between Amit and I:
(Amit was workin for Apricot as a freelance PHP programmer)

Amit: Office par ho ??
Me : Haan !
Amit: Kya kar rahe ho ??
Me : kya karenge.. kaam toh hai nahin.. kuchh nahin... bas building my "Brand" !! :)
Amit: Building your brand ??
Me : haan re.. blogging and stuff.. social networks.. etc etc..
Amit: haan .. roz ke do post aate hai blog par.. :-D.... Lagey Raho..
Me : aur batao....

anywhich ways.. friday nite went off.. saturday came in.. and I wasn't in the mood to go to work.. so fooled around till 12:30.. called up work.. and no one was there, surprisingly.. called up boss and told him that i aint goin to work.. and he was fine with it :-D ! Tried readin Ayn Rand.. Duh.. and dozed off in the middle of the first page ...

did absolutely nothing.. chutti thhi.. and ever so lazy me, wasn't even willin to travel down to Colaba jus for the heck of it.. :P
nothing... started an embroidery project.. designer giri on my own clothes is wat i normally end up doin on such "free" days..

Sunday went off as planned.. headed towards IITB to catch up with a few people and socialise.. I also finished off with the Enbroidery project.. its come out neat.. will click snaps and put it up soon..

and thats is what my first week in Mumbai looked lyk... Awesomely Boring and Useles...
mostly, this week looks the same.. no expections, wat so ever.. lets c..

I am headin to Amdabad on the 18th, for the Barcamp.. Have lots of expectations from this event.. Lets see.. Hoping for a good start for my lil child !

LuV...

(P.S. Yes I have a baby Daughter.... :) .. Waiting for her to grow a lil old and will then introduce her to the world. You gotto wait)

MuMBai

one thing which has been good this year has been my shift to mumbai after a 2 month long vacation.. wasn't expectin this to happen so easily.. I wasn't expectin it to happen at all infact.. cus the situations back home were kinda risky..

but anyways.. Am Happy, and tat's wat matters.. :)

but it wasn't that great a transition.. i was shit scared, confused, sad, home - sick (yes home-sick and me !! ) and a lot of other emotions too...

I didn't know if I was really happy movin back to mumbai cus I was missing a lot of my smooth LyF back home..

after a lot of shouting, i used to pick my lazy bum from the chair and eat lunch / dinner.. and used to be the last one to wake up and have breakfast.. wat a LyF !! best was ghar ka khana, but was a lil spicey for me.. but still, better than my usual burgers and pizzas in mumbai.. home-made laddoos at arm's reach, sangam barfee at thumb's reach, gudd - ghee.. umm, and i still look like I have lost weight after eating so much back home..

pyar ke sessions to mom (yes, I gave her Pyaar Bhara session, never recd one till date though), when she got upset over her health, convenor-giri, nani se jhadga, bhai ko daatna, aunty - uncle se pangey, scrabble with my chhottu cousins - the only games i ever won :P

so much I did in 2 months..

Leavin Ahmedabad, I was more worried about Mom, who'd take care of her like I did.. Dad is good at it too.. jus discovered..

LyF wasn't very smooth actually, it was just that I was worried about mom while traveling back to Mumbai.. and I'm done with it almost..

and I'm probably home-sick, cus I really didn't have anything exciting to look at wen I reached mumbai, no special surprises, no one special, no special work, no special event.. :)

the start in mumbai, has been pretty slow.. not really the kinda LyF is used to live before..
M waitin to get back to my hectic schedules...

Cheers
Aditi

P.S. Ending the post on such a random note, cus the state of my mind is that wierd...

Squid-oo

This post was to be put up 2 days back.. but has been delayed cus of obvious reasons..
was a lil upset over things that happened on the 10th of Dec to be precise..

the lil thing.. was playin peacefully on the floor inside the house..
And the cat came and killed it.. :(

i tried to save it twice.. but the poor thing was dead by the time I could actually save it..

an obituary to Squid-oo from Vaibhav..

It is not growing like a tree
In bulk, doth make man better be;
Or standing long an oak, three hundred year,
To fall a log at last, dry, bald, and sear:
A lily of a day
Is fairer far in May,
Although it fall and die that night,--
It was the plant and flower of Light.
In small proportions we just beauties see;
And in short measures life may perfect be.

- Ben Jonson
I miss him loads..
The cat is not allowed in the house any more.. and mom was upset for a day over this incident..

one of his last pics..

Bikkit Eater !

And who ever said I was heart-less, i guess i have proved them wrong..

now we have a nice lil new creature squeeking around the house..
Squid-oo !

He squeeks a lot, sleeps a lot, gets the most attention in the house, doesn't drink, doesn't eat, very weak, topples down while walkin and is only 15 days old.. approximately..

iThink !!!

I definitely do !! :)

And well, this one's going to be more about the Facebook Application recently developed by Minekey Professionals.

iThink is an application on Facebook, which was launched recently in the Month of November by a group of 7 professionals from the Minekey team.

It is a social application through which you can share opinions with the entire FB community about anything. Ranging from Politics, Sports, Relationships, Home, Gardens, Food, Pets, Entertainment, Dating and what not.

I'm already addicted to this Smart App and iThink it is one of the best Apps so far on the FB Community that I've come across.

The deal here is that, you get to voice your opinions, get a vote from the others on the Social network, reviews/Comments from like-minded people and helping you thus to analyze things and put things in perspective..

Wanted a suggestion on something, just put up a question on iThink and wait for the audience to respond to it. You can then easily analyze the problem / situation and then go ahead with the solutions (which can come from a user on the site)

There is a Similarity Test, which helps you analyze your similarity with your friends based on the opinions shared through the application.

Would have been amazing if this little app could actually generate graphs from the Opinions casted by the users, as it would make it easier for people to analyze and generate conclusions from the votes.
In addition, a service which could combine similar issues /problems / statements and generate a summary of sorts from the votes casted by the users.

I am completely, completely in LuV with this App..
And here's the link to my iThink profile.

mmmm and iThink.... chocolate is the best thing Human being ever discovered ! :)

Spanish LuV !!

interesting things happen to interesting people !!
And surprisingly, all these beautiful things happen to me.. actually wierd !

Lemme giv u a taste of it..

i really don knw how many women this dude has managed to get in touch with all this while, but for me, its been a nice nice experience..

its been around a month and a half.. since we got talkin.. and i'm still tryin to figure out 'why the hell does this man fake his profile' !!
It all started with Orkut.. some scraps were exchanged and then chats..

his Orkut and Facebook name reads as Kabir Fakes..

Calls himself a Facade !! weak inside.. Strong from the outside..
And chats with nothin less than 20 women at the same time..

the interestin part is that he actually doesn't talk to women in his real lyf..
its only thru his fake pro on these social networks he communicates with some 20 odd women..
and never had a girlfriend !!

and the idea behind fakin himself - "If I can make 25 people talking to me with a fake profile, imagine the magnitude if I were to use my original one"
i mean.. thats alrite.. but dude, wat if u meet the rite one thru your fake pro, u can't even try and get romantic with her.. !

and yeah, he is not good with flirting.. try it and u'l realise..

His own words ...
"I try hard to flirt...but at the end of the day I start either preaching or making sisters" !! :)
I cudnt help smiling at that one..

and we talk on a regular basis.. sharing ideas and philosophies.. talkin abt the daily nuances .. life in general.. his other 20 + babes.. and all this wit a fake person..

He is very intelligent..
working for EnY at the moment.. as an intern.. and movin out to become a CA..

wil take time before i understand the man behind this fake identity.. he doesn't reveal much about himself over such conversations..

for more.. check his Facebook Profile

this one was jus a lil intro to this Fake Kabir - the Spanish LuVer..
more to come up over the period..

Another small lil experience.. cherished, savoured and romancin..

cheers

Dial kiye gaye number ki ......

i am gettin a free prepaid card from the Vodafone service provider this evening.. with some 100 bucks of recharge value and a yr long validity..

reason.. my old number ain't working cus the bum doesn't know what is the error in the application form and why is the company not accepting it..

thrice in a row.. and the duff didn't knw why there was a problem in processin the application..

[me: saab, aap itna bataoge ki galti kahaan hai, toh hum sudhar sakenge na !!]

and well.. this was happening since the last 3 days.. ! fake promisses of the phone startin by 12:00 PM, pissed me off.. and inspite of submittin the docs on time.. with the relevant details.. the thing doesn't get done !!

so it all happened last nite.. i called him up for the 10th time ... in like 7 hours.. or so..
asked him about the status..

the dude had stopped recievin my calls.. !

"ho jayega madam.. aaj raat 12 baje tak.. nahin hua toh kal aakar naya card le jaayega.. kal subah"

am like, hopin it doesn't start in the nite.. i get a new number.. :) a card for free.. and free talk time :)))

well.. it really didn't start...

and i call him up in the morning.. some promises undelivered.. others delivered..

i get a new number in the evenin today.. and will be passed on to you guys soon..
till then, bear with "dial kiye gaye number ki sevayein kuchh samay ke liye sthhagit ki gayi hai"

Duct Tape Marketing

Have been following John Jantsch's blog for quite sometime now.. it is called the Duct Tape Marketing..

amazingly well written posts.. and very very interesting..
You would want to come back and read up the latest on his blog..

The last post, was something about the Thanksgiving drive and Live Blogging.. where he shares this amazing amazing thought about how people show different emotions on different things.. He specifically talks about laughing and giggling..

Quoting from the post:
"I wonder how many people visit our web sites, read our sales copy and listen to our pitches and, effectively, laugh at different parts, and maybe not the parts we thought they would laugh or not at.

Test, test, test everything. It’s a amazing how different the same web page can appear to different people. Know what you want people to do when you make a point, create a web page, write a sales letter and then get some people together to see if they get it. You are probably too close to know what the funny parts are anymore."

and yes, i know how it is.. because I giggle at things, people don't find funny at all.. and well, its wierd to some extent.. but most of things I giggle at are actually funny :)

last notes, look thru his posts and lemme knw if it helps you too !

cheers

Of Conversations and more !

Of late I have been catchin up with a lot of people from around the country on the messengers... so many wierd things and nice conversations, kinda LyF givin experiences....

have always been a 'chat' person.. nevah really liked the idea of talkin on the phone or talkin face-to-face with someone..

the followin posts are goin to be a collection of amazing (and mind u, amazing is too less a word to define them) conversations which happened over a period of a month or so..

the most recent one..

"I have to tell you that your good looks decieve the fact that you are so smart too"

well.. obviously a compliment.. and from a dude.. who is an AIESEC alumnus from like those days wen AIESEC Ah used to be based outta IIMA..

bein the mean'ie' that I am, my answer to his statement was

"F***, beauty can't come with smartness kya.. and anyways I aint beautiful"

A: "do I take it as a compliment or a comment ???"

S: "well it was supposed to be a compliment.. very frankly i would rather just keep you guessing..."

A: "hmm well.. i'm smart enuf .. so yeah.. i kinda already accepted it as a compliment"

hmmmm ! well..

Keep trackin the blog for more interestin conversations !!
